Parent Handbook

Banner Performing Arts Parent Guide

We are a Christ-centered performing arts community for homeschool families in the Charleston area and cannot wait to get started learning and growing with you!

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Please enter the King’s Cross Church building through the main entrance. Parents are asked to escort their students inside and sign them in at arrival.

Please Pick your child up promptly! You must enter the building to sign your student out after rehearsal. This is for safety and accountability for all students and teachers.

Please communicate with Banner leadership if an alternative caregiver is picking up or dropping off your child(ren).

Campus/Building Safety

All enrolled Banner Performing Arts students must stay inside the building at all times. If a sibling of a student performer is also on the property, they must remain in the building and with their parent at all times. Siblings are welcome to stay, provided they are not disruptive to class.

We are a homeschool community and understand the need siblings may have to bring their home work to do during class time. We support your family and ask that fellow homeschoolers complete their other work with respect to the classes taking place.

King’s Cross hosts many additional events throughout the semester. Church office hours are also held on Thursdays on site. We ask that students and family stay in our allotted areas and treat the facility with courtesy and respect.

NO student should ever be alone with any adult that is not their parent or direct, listed caregiver. Please see our Safety Documents for more information

Honoring our Hosts

We are very grateful Kings Cross Church, for hosting us during our first year. Our hope is to have a long and peaceful relationship with them. We want to show them respect and kindness and of course, we will do our very best to take care of the spaces they have generously provided us.

*Please, always clean up after yourselves* Collect all trash, waterbottles, foods, bags and other items you might bring into the building.

All parents and Banner students must take the time to collect their belongings and check for debris they might have left before signing out for the day.

Restrooms

Kings’ Cross has granted Banner Performing Arts use of the restrooms in the center lobby. Students are families are asked to only use these 2 restrooms during class hours (10am-3pm Thursdays).

Leave the restroom tidy and let Banner leadership know right away if the facility has run out of restroom care items such as toilet paper, paper towels, or hand soap.

No adult will be allowed in the restroom while a child is occupying the restroom. The exception to this is for parents accompanying their children to the restroom. Please see Safety Documents for more information on restroom safety.

Phones are not permitted for use during class

Students are permitted to bring their phones to class day, however they must store their devices in their bag and keep them off. Phones and smart watches are to be for “emergencies only”

Attendance Policy

We have a limited number of rehearsals and a significant amount of material to cover in class. Students must make every effort to be present at weekly rehearsals. If students are frequently absent, arrangements may need to be made for characters and understudies. For the sake of the integrity of the program, please show your fellow students the respect of being present and on time for rehearsals each week.

Illness Policy

If you are sick, please stay home. If you are showing symptoms of an illness, such as a fever in the last 24 hours, vomiting, etc. please keep your child home.

Please notify Banner Leadership right away if you will have to be absent from rehearsal.

If your child develops symptoms of illness during rehearsal and you are not on site, we will contact you right away so you can take them home.

Our priority is keep students as safe and healthy as possible. The hope in our Illness Policy is to allow your child to rest and heal, and to minimize the spread of contagious illnesses.

Dress Code

Students should dress modestly and appropriately. Clothing should allow freedom of movement without becoming revealing during regular activity or performance.

In an effort to be hospitable and glorify God in our speech, thoughts, and actions, please avoid offensive language, or overtly political graphics on student clothing.

Emergency Procedures

In the event of an emergency, please follow staff instructions and procede to the nearest exits. We will evacuate to the field to the Left of the parking lot when leaving the building. Roll will be taken and students may be signed out from Banner leadership on the field. This is to keep everyone safe and accounted for during any and all emergencies. Please do not remove your child from the premesis without first signing them out with leadership. Parents may (and should) accompany all students and staff to the designated evacuation location.

Tuition Policy

Payment is due following the first class of each semester. Semester 1 begins August 13, 2026, therefore tuition is due no later than Friday, August 14, 2026.

This give students and parents and opportunity to experience class and decide if it will be a good fit. We hope everyone will stay, but we understand that at times, schedules and needs may not align 100%. For this reason, we offer a trial class as a grace to families before fully committing to the semester.

Tuition may be satisfied by check (made payable to Krystal Marshall), venmo to @bannerperformingarts or through Stripe, where credit or debit cards are used to process payment. The stripe invoices are sent through email.

If a credit or debit card is used, a processing fee of $4.57 is added to the total. This is less than the cost of the processing fee and is used exclusively to offset the additional processing cost for credit and debit cards.

Late Tuition

No late fees will be charged for tuition that is not received by the due date. Please make every effort to pay on time.

The tuition fees are necessary to carry the operation costs of Banner Performing Arts. This includes liability insurance, facility fees, Printed scripts, costumes, set pieces, licensing and royalties for the shows we perform, instructor salaries, and more.
Thank you for making every effort to pay your family tuition on time!

Refunds

No refunds will be given. Please reach out to Banner leadership with any questions

Semester Based Process

Banner Performing Arts operates throughout the school year and provides 15 weeks in the Fall and Spring semesters, separately. Students who are admitted in the Fall, and have paid tuition for the first semester automatically have a spot in the Spring semester classes.

If Fall semester classes become full, a waiting list will begin for Spring semester. New Students will not be admitted to semester classes after week 5

While we hope each student will return in the Spring, we understand that isn’t always possible to due schedule conflicts and other situations. There is no penalty for not returning in the Spring, however, we will open the vacant spot to other students not currently enrolled. (This will not prevent your student from enrolling the following year)

Each semester is a brand new opportunity! Spots are held for returning students and Banner leadership will decide if additional classes, larger class sizes, and additional teachers are needed for continued growth. Our hope is to never turn a student away. We believe there is a place for everyone!

Additional Communication

We use the BAND app for additional communication. BAND has a copy of rehearsal dates and times. T-shirt order forms (when available), information sent through email, the policies, this handbook, and more.

While parents will be contacted via email, and can utilize the website for detailed information, the BAND is meant to be a helpful tool to answer questions quickly and download items easily. Some of the items posted in the app for easy use will be:

  • A copy of the complete digital script
  • Show programs
  • Student Bios (which will be printed into the programs)
  • Show posters
  • Any photos parents might take during class may be posted there
  • Costume inspiration photos
  • Event Invites
  • A recap of the previous class
  • more!

Volunteer Opportunities

We rely on volunteers to run efficiently! We are asking parents to step up and help in any way they can. No one can do everything, but everyone can do Something! We hope you will sign up to serve and help support the community and ministry we are building together! Some volunteer opportunities are:

  • Being a second adult in the room during rehearsal
  • Monitoring lobby and large spaces during rehearsal so that siblings stay calm and well behaved during rehearsals
  • Welcoming families in during rehearsal
  • Greeting patrons at performances
  • Operating the Sound System during the last 2 rehearsals and performances (we can train volunteers for this!)
  • Selling Concessions or souvenirs at performances
  • Helping backstage during one performance
  • Sewing and organizing costumes
  • Ensuring Props are returned and stored properly
  • Handing-out programs or ushering
  • Operating camera during performance
  • Lighting assistance during performance

All volunteers who work directly with students will be subject through a background check, performed by Protect My Ministry.

Complimentary Tickets

Comp tickets are offered to every family. Each enrolled student receives Two Comp tickets per semester. Information on claiming comp tickets will be released 1 month prior to performances. While we hope and plan we will sell many tickets to the community, we want to make sure every parent and guardian has the chance to see the performances, regardless of cost.

Additional ticketing information will be provided closer to performance dates. Our intention is to open 150 total seats per performance.

We are so grateful for every student and parent who is a part of our community. Thank you for joining us with Banner Performing Arts!
